Common Summer Car Issues and How to Prevent Them

August 15, 2024

Summer may be *officially winding down, but we don’t call it Endless Summer for nothing. The heat isn’t going anywhere just yet. With high temperatures persisting, your car can still face some common heat-related issues. At Ice Cold Air, we’ve seen it all, and we’re here to help you keep your vehicle running smoothly especially when it’s hot out.

It’s cool, we’re going to cover the most frequent car problems and how you can prevent them, saving you time and money!\

Overheating Engines

One of the biggest concerns during the hottest months around here is your engine overheating. When the temperature rises, your car’s cooling system works overtime to keep the engine cool. But if there’s an issue, like low coolant levels or a faulty radiator, your engine can quickly overheat, leading to potential damage.

Our team recommends regularly checking your coolant levels and inspecting your radiator and hoses for any leaks or wear. It’s also a good idea to have your cooling system flushed and refilled as part of your car maintenance – but especially in the summer. Staying on top of maintenance helps prevent costly repairs down the road.

Tire Troubles

The heat can also cause problems for your tires. Our high temperatures can lead to the air inside your tires expanding, which increases the risk of a blowout. And, driving on underinflated tires only makes things worse, putting more strain on them and leading to uneven wear.

To avoid tire troubles, make sure to check your tire pressure regularly (and again especially during the summer months). Keep your tires inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended levels and inspect them for any signs of wear or damage.

Air Conditioning Failure

Ice Cold Air is the name, so we KNOW there’s nothing worse than having your car’s air conditioning fail on a hot day! Summer is when your AC system works the hardest, and if it’s not properly maintained, it could stop working just when you need it most.

We suggest having your AC system checked at least once a year to ensure it’s running efficiently. Add to that, regularly replacing your cabin air filter and keeping your AC system clean can help prevent breakdowns.
